These Celebrities Don’t Want to Have Kids (And Why)

There are many valid reasons not to have children, but as we all know, men are more likely to receive that same kind of message than women. We can't help but cheer when women like Jennifer Aniston and Oprah Winfrey speak out about why they don't want children because they're helping to erase the stigma of being childless.

But there is a flip side to this coin: Many celebrities are keen to talk about their large families and feel strongly about their roles as mothers. This can be discouraging for women with no intention of having children shortly.

As a result, these motivational quotes from famous women who reject the idea that having children is the only way to achieve fulfilment should encourage women all over.

Oprah Winfrey

Her success has made her one of the world's wealthiest people. The Hollywood Reporter quoted her as saying in 2013 that her hectic schedule and lofty ambitions would have prevented her from being a good mother.

He told her, "My kids will indeed hate me," if she ever had children of her own. In my life, "they would have finished on the comparison of the 'Oprah' show talking about me because something [in my life] had to suffer, and it would've probably been them."

When it comes to the Bachelorette's first episode, Katie Thurston admitted that having children isn't essential to her future — and perhaps hinted that this season's "is this the man I would like to raise my children?" tone will be less prevalent.

Allison Janney

On The Drew Barrymore Show, Allison Janney admitted, "I think if I'd found the right gentleman at the right time who wanted kids, I presumably would have with the ideal person because I wasn't confident that I wanted to have kids.

Ultimately, I'd rather hate not getting children than regretting having them. "It's fine with me," she said. At this point in her life that she's finally figured out who she is and what she wants. "I'd like to find somebody to embrace my life with, but if it doesn't happen, I'll be fine."
